Chez MainLine 2010-03-22

Spring has sprung, and MainLine is springing!

First off, thanks to everyone who came out for the first week of Edgy Women - it was awesome to host the festival.

Please note that the *second* week of Edgy (featuring poster girl Jess Dobkin) is happening at Tangente (840 Cherrier). For tickets, call 514-525-1500 or check out http://www.edgywomen.ca.

La deuxième semaine du festival Edgy Women a lieu, non au MainLine, mais au Tangente (840 Cherrier). Pour les billets, appelez 514-525-1500 ou visitez le site du festival au http://www.edgywomen.ca.

SO JUST WHAT IS HAPPENING AT MAINLINE THIS WEEK?!?

Je me posais la même question...

TUESDAY, MARCH 23 @ 8pm, $7 - METEOR is a long-form improv show about apocalypse, devastation and the smaller things that come before. When the name is all caps, you know it's got to be good.

Starring Sean Michaels, Marc Rowland and BJ Walsh. (Previously seen with Without Annette, Montreal Improv, the Bitter End, Dance Animal.)

ALSO! Get this, there's ANOTHER improv set with Kirsten Rasmussen (Rapid Fire Theatre) and Dan Jeannotte (Uncalled For). Two improvisors explore the hilarious relationships that make us or break us. They are You You, Me Me and the Somethings Somethings! Yes!

MERCREDI 24 MARS @ 20h, 10 $ - TALK-SHOW!

JEUDI 25 MARS @ 20h, 5 $ - ACRYLIQUE ACOUSTIQUE!

FRIDAY, MARCH 25 @ 10 pm, $10 - STRIP SPELLING BEE! The game is played a lot like strip poker, but it's a spelling bee, and it's played in front of a live audience of hooters, hollerers and hecklers who want to see some smart and sexy skin! Here are the official rules. One by one, participants are asked to spell a word. If they get it right, they sit down. If they get it wrong, they must striptease A THIRD of their clothing off, and that is considered their first "strike". When they misspell a second word, that is their second strike and they must striptease ANOTHER third off. A third and final strike requires that they strip down to their underwear. Or, NAKED - whichever they are most comfortable with. After three strikes, a participant is out of the competition. But they should take heart – because while they may have lost, the audience has most certainly won. The winner of the Bee takes home (a) a bottle of wine; (b) a CD with recordings of over an hour of cats purring loudly; and (c) a DVD with over an hour of my friend sleeping in a sexy tank top. Best striptease will also take home (a) a bottle of wine; (b) a CD with recordings of over an hour of cats purring loudly; and (c) a DVD with over an hour of my friend sleeping in a sexy tank top.

All striptease spellers get a free drink, and do not pay cover.
Anyone can drop out of the competition at any time AFTER the completion of the SECOND round.

This is a queer, senior and trans-friendly event. We have a NO BOOING policy strictly in effect. No photos are allowed except by our Official Photographer. Our goal is to have everyone feel safe, secure and comfortable enough to strip and spell. Regarding the No Photos Rule - we also have a Snitch Policy. If you are a member of the audience and you witness someone taking a surreptitious photo, BY ALL MEANS, interrupt the proceedings, come up to one of the hosts - SNITCH on the guilty party, and once they have been dealt with, you will be rewarded with a free drink.

We thank you for your patronage and understanding.

SATURDAY, MARCH 26 @ 9:30 pm, $10 - OMFG IT'S ALMOST SPRING SLOWDANCE NIGHT! With a lending library of designated dancers for all you wallflowers, and a dancecard-booklet to set up dances in advance (should you choose to), Slowdance Night has all slow songs, all night long! (Except for the occasional intermission when we play the fastest songs we can find!) It's high school with a happy ending, and it's queer, senior, and couple-friendly too. Come and experience why slow is beautiful, and why love is not ironic. PS. Fantastic and inspired attire, while desired, is not required.

SUNDAY, MARCH 27 @ 8 pm, $6 - CROWD KARAOKE!
1. COME ready to sing your hearts out!
2. CHOOSE a song to add to the playlist!
3. SING together on the dancefloor while the lyrics are projected in front of you and the music swells in the background!

Remember the last time you got drunk with a bunch of friends and some song came over the radio and you all spontaneously just started singing together and it was completely amazing? Yah – we’re trying to do that to you, multiple times, all night long. One word of warning, however - singing your heart out may result in a hoarse throat the next morning, a glow in your heart that will last all day, and new friends to last the rest of your life. Do be careful.

Carelessly yours,
Patrick
