OFF-JFL - Boast Rattle

Just For Laughs

Company website

A roast-battle-style compliment contest where comedians compete to see who can compliment one another in this showdown of sweetness, this clash of consideration, this barrage of benevolence. Playing off of the idea of roasts, Boast Rattle has two comedians go head-to-head, delivering alternating blows of the nicest order. One lucky crowd member who gets some on-the-spot boasting. One Champion of Charity, Master of Magnanimity.

Hosted by Kyle Ayers, who comes out, meets the crowd, and introduced the concept. With a panel of judges to contribute, critique, and influence the ultimate decision, which rests on the shoulders of the crowd.

Precinct is 45 minute improvised narrative. This means the performers know who their characters are but no idea where the story will end up (spoiler: it's always hilarious). Andy Assaf, Dimitri Kyres, and Jason Grimmer play the three main cops: soft-hearted Carl "Carly" Boucher, short-fused John Calgary, and gruff step-father of five Captain Bill Garber. Other guests will be announced soon! Together these tough cops are cleaning up the mean streets of Montreal's Plateau one perp at a time!

La performance d’Oli Sorenson découpera plusieurs reproductions des tableaux de Paul-Emile Borduas qu’il a produit en examinant des jpeg trouvés sur Internet sans respecter toutes leurs qualités matérielles. For his performance, Oli Sorenson will cut into several reproductions of the works of Paul-Emile Borduas, which he executed simply by examining jpeg found on the Internet, and unfaithfully respecting their material features.

Sexuality is always wrapped up in structures and systems of power. This new verbatim theatre play by Dane Stewart offers an intimate and radically honest examination of sex and power from a queer perspective. Five students take a graduate seminar studying the work of revolutionary philosopher Michel Foucault. As they argue over issues of sexuality, gender, oppression and free will, these theories begin to rupture and spill out into their own lives. The characters expose the complexities of sexuality as it collides with BDSM, pup play, disability, gender, race, and sex work.
