Andrea Stanford's "Verbal Diary-Ah: Confessions of an Awkward Teenager"

Festival SOLOS Festival

Company website

Description:
Ever wish you could revisit your teenage years? The Oscar-worthy DRAMA? The constant EMBARRASSMENT and nagging SELF-DOUBT? Probably not, right? For Andrea Stanford, the opportunity to read you entries from her actual teenage diaries is just too juicy to pass up. Join her as she shares harrowing-yet-hilarious tales from her adolescence; from first beers to "first times", then responds to these angst-ridden tirades 15 years later from her current and (marginally) more mature perspective. How will she answer her teenage self? Was all that worrying necessary? Has anything even changed?

Verbal Diary-ah explores the idea of then and now, especially when it comes to a teenager's utopian vision of where she sees her life heading versus where it actually ends up.

Bio:
Andrea Stanford currently works for CBC Montreal. She has dabbled in stand-up comedy, but prefers the indulgence of storytelling. Verbal Diary-ah premiered at the 2011 Montreal Fringe Festival, where it was nominated for the Just For Laughs Best Comedy Award. Wife, mother, lover of the Montreal Arts scene, Andrea is a regular contributor to Bloody Underrated and has a tendency to dissolve into hysterical laughter at inopportune times.

The artist will be interviewed by our host Kym Dominique Ferguson @Mrkdferguson. This is a one of a kind experience. There will be 8 Open Mic spots available for all genres: spoken word, poetry, comedy, singers, clowns, dancers, you name it we welcome it. They are each given a 5 min timeslot.

"I Want The World To Love is a cabaret-style theatre piece that, through monologue, poetry, music, and movement, weaves together stories about women navigating worlds that were not built for them.
