DeAnne Smith: Post Joke Era

Just For Laughs

Company website

The comedy you need when the world is a joke. Its hard to stay positive in a world filled with misogyny, racism, and rising nationalism but gosh darn it if we ain't gonna try! Melbourne's The Music calls Post Joke Era, "a virtuoso display of smart, slick, silly brilliance - a metaphorical (and literal) mic-drop of a show," giving it five stars, while UK's Chortle calls Smith, "always relevant, but never reverent." This Canadian/American gentleman elf isn't fucking around. You should see this.

A Canadian Comedy Award winner, DeAnne Smith is a regular here at Just for Laughs, and has performed at JFL 42, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Iceland Comedy Festival among others. Her TV appearances include NBC's Last Comic Standing, CBS's The Late Late Show, Canada's The Comedy Network and CBC, Australia's Channel 10 and ABC, and UK's Sky TV.

A recent review from Chortle calls her "the stand-out of the stand-outs," and The UK Telegraph says: "Smart. Very funny. Effortless charm lets her get away with murder." She's never actually murdered anyone.

What if you entered an empty rehearsal hall and suddenly an audience appears? Joseph Ste-Marie brings his experimental scripted/improvised one-man show, This Show is Broken back to the stage! This remount blends the 2021 Digital Theatre production from the Montreal FRINGE Festival and the original 2015 production at the 2nd annual Shortstanding Festival. Ste-Marie must perform his show as he explores his life, struggles, missteps, and tries to show that it’s not too late to pursue your dreams…. However, Joseph is challenged to be honest with himself so his show can be authentic as possible without being blinded by ambition.

The Variations Mile End dancers perform an original choreographed performance using The wizard of oz as inspiration!
